                          Risk Assessments


Risk assessments are a preproduction document to assess the risks of producing the product. Risk assessments state what the risks are, how high these risks are and how we can prevent or respond to these hazards/dangers.

Zest radio would make a risk assessment to make sure their radio stations are a safe environment to work in and make sure their employees are safe.

Radio stations can have lots of hazards that can cause fires and electrical dangers:
  • You can trip over wires
  • Plug sockets can become overloaded 
  • Hot drinks can be spilt onto the technology
  • Water shouldn't be near electrical outlets
  • Eye strain
  • Back has to be straight and knees must be in line with the floor, if not you have to have a step
  • Headaches- take breaks from the computer/laptop
  • The radio equipment can be knocked over and hurt someone


This risk assessment is about working in a radio station. As you can see, they have included the hazards and how to stop or reduce these hazards.

Recce are used in film and TV to evaluate the risks of an environment/setting of where the film or TV show could be filmed. For example, a forest may be too dark or they are too close to a road....

 Broadcasting, scheduling and distribution opportunities The BBC has to entertain, educate and inform its audience as they create content for everyone. BBC public service radios show the scheduling for their radios on the radio websites; you can see what shows are going to be broadcasted and at what times. Here you can see that Radio 1Xtra has mainly music shows and talking/talk shows such as "The 1Xtra Breakfast show with Nadia Jae" and "Songs To Live By". The 1Xtra Breakfast show with Nadia Jae is scheduled for 7:00 in the morning and ends at 10:00. Many people will be getting ready for work, eating breakfast or going to work; they would like sound in the background. LO1: Regulation of public service radio

 Regulation of public service radio Ofcom regulates what is suitable for the radio and they set the rules that radio companies must comply with. They make sure what is being used on the radio is appropriate and if anyone is concerned or have a complaint about the content they can get in contact with Ofcom. Broadcast Code: Full (ofcom.org.uk) Regulation - About the BBC The Ofcom Broadcasting code goes over the rules for public broadcasting radio. page 66 Part one: The first section talks about "protecting the under-eighteens" which all broadcasting has to follow to stop inappropriate content for those ages.  Scheduling and content: 1.1- So rule one goes over how any content that could harm the development of children cannot be shown.
