 Legal and Ethical Considerations

Zest radio will have to follow Ofcom regulation rules and they also have other rules or things to consider:
  • The language that they use has to be appropriate for the listeners; they cannot use swear words or talk about sexual content before 9pm and they cannot use any language that is offensive to anyone, including culturally diverse people. Preaching about religion isn't allowed either. Drugs can't be referenced.
  • Zest radio will have to have a radio license that costs £75 for five years in the UK.
  • The data protection act needs to be followed.
  • They cannot play copyrighted music without permission.
  • Hosts cannot saying anything libel- a false statement that would damage a person's reputation
  • Zest radio cannot be sexist or racist

Zest is a public service radio so they do not need to worry about the ASA as public service radios don't use advertising.
