LO1: Broadcasting, scheduling and distribution opportunities
Broadcasting, scheduling and distribution opportunities
The BBC has to entertain, educate and inform its audience as they create content for everyone. BBC public service radios show the scheduling for their radios on the radio websites; you can see what shows are going to be broadcasted and at what times.
Here you can see that Radio 1Xtra has mainly music shows and talking/talk shows such as "The 1Xtra Breakfast show with Nadia Jae" and "Songs To Live By". The 1Xtra Breakfast show with Nadia Jae is scheduled for 7:00 in the morning and ends at 10:00. Many people will be getting ready for work, eating breakfast or going to work; they would like sound in the background. Plus, children will be going to school so the parents and the children might want to listen to some music on the way to school.
"Newsbeat" is scheduled for 5:45pm which lasts for 15 minutes and ends at 6:00 pm. This could be as people are coming home from work at around that time and they are going to listen to the radio or because the even news is on usually around that time. Radio 1Xtra is made to entertain people with only the Newsbeat to educate. They also include culturally diverse music such as Africa 360 with Jizzle from Gambia that is scheduled for 5:00 in the morning. Radio 1Xtra is a good example on what a Zest radio should contain and the broadcasting.
However, Radio 5 is mainly interviews and sports related.
Radio 2 contains quizzes (OJ Borg at 00:00 in the morning), talks with celebrities (Zoe Ball Breakfast Show at 6:30 in the morning) and music is played (Jo Whiley's Shiny Happy Playlist at 19:00 in the evening). Zest Radio should do things like this to attract the 16-30 year-old audience.
