Conventions of public radio programmes

Public service radio such as the BBC use very similar sound effects and the conventions of public service radio programmes will be similar to normal radios.

The sound effects on BBC radio 1 includes a jingle that says BBC radio 1. It is like a sound brand to their radio, it lets the listeners know which radio they are listening to and creates brand awareness.

The presenters introduce themselves and they tell you what song you are listening to and the artist.  The presenters also do interviews with artists like Dua Lipa about their music which brings listeners to the radio. They will say what time these interviews or singers are on.

They include catchy music in the background when talking.

BBC radios talk about top stories and news. On BBC radio 1, they have a newsbeat programme that updates the listeners about any news, stories or road closures.

The presenters talk about new tracks and albums.

The BBC PSB radios don't have adverts as they are funded by TV licenses and not advertising, however they might advertise their own content.
