LO1: Opportunities for synergy

Opportunities for Synergy for Public service                                           radio

Synergy means to maximise the success of a product through horizontal integration. Horizontal integration is when a company promotes across different media subsidiaries. The BBC use synergy to advertise their products across their own media channels such as BBC radios, TV and so on.

Synergy in the BBC

The BBC is a Public Service Broadcaster, you can see that they use synergy. On all of the BBC websites, radio, YouTube, social media.... they use their BBC logo to advertise themselves.

They have a YouTube channel (BBC and BBC news) where they have clips from their shows and news stories which advertises their TV shows and News.

They advertise their products on social media, for example on their Twitter they advertise BBC radio, BBC TV channels and shows, BBC iPlayer, BBCSounds as you can see from the screenshots below.
Here you can see Twitter screenshots where the BBC are advertising their TV show Blankety Blank which starts on the 2nd of October on BBC iPlayer. They have used synergy to advertise this show on social media. The BBC Press Office use synergy to advertise the COP26 climate change conference. They say you can watch the conference on BBC TV channels, BBC iPlayer, BBC radios and BBCSounds. This is synergy because they are using their Twitter and social media to promote their shows/content on the BBC subsidiaries to gain more awareness of the product and maximise success.

BBC has their own website that includes links to their other subsidiaries such as BBC iPlayer and BBC News. This makes their subsidiaries easily accessible for the people.

BBC Bitesize is a BBC website that has educational resources for children to study and revise for school and college. Here you can see that on the BBC website they advertise their BBC TV channels.
